I've been thinking of creating a stereotypical female greenrider persona who likes to wear short skirts and everything. Pern doesn't have spandex though, does it? I'm guessing weyrfolk don't have much of a problem with underwear showing. :help: :)
I'm not quite sure what you mean by stereotypical green rider. LOL There are as many different types of greenriders as there ARE greenriders. :)
As for spandex, no, that is a synthetic fabric and is not technologically possibly on Pern.
As for short skirts/underwear, I don't see that happening either. Though, the Weyr is very permissive in attitude, the Holds are not. She would not be allowed OUT of the Weyr in anything but wherhide riding leather, or suitable, modest clothing. This is a feudal society. Think middle ages type clothing. Full length skirts/dresses for women and if they are a dragonrider then breeches, leather, blouses and the like.
But, no, no spandex and no short skirts.

While no one at the Weyr might have a problem with underwear showing, the Headwoman might ask her why she couldn't find clothing that fit! *g*
If anyone's ever had the luck/joy of reading or owning 'People of Pern' with Robin Wood's wonderful drawings and paintings of characters featured in AM's Pern, the dress is very Middle Ages: tunics, trousers, chemises, gowns...with Celtic knotwork etc featurig heavily in both trimmings and weavings...and things would be made of natural fibres...
I don't think AM had short skirts or spandex in mind when she created her world...

My little mental definition of a stereotypical greenrider, however inacurrate it is :), is a huge flirt who spends almost every night in a different weyr. I assumed that would include the whole small shirt/short skirt thing but I'll have to rethink that from what you all are saying. Thanks for the info. I've got some new pictures in my mind now.
