Sorry;
I sent this by email from the site until I realised that Aaron; said FORUM
Dear Council;
After Hesiba's question put my bluerider on the spot I have done some digging (some 20 yrs into the past) and found an event I would like the chance to flashback to/adapt to Triad Canon. Consequently, I have questions.
1. What; if any is the procedure for inviting a Guest writer in for a one shot post. I assume it would be up to us to run it via email etc, but I mean in posting it to the list. Would the character have to just be an ONPC of the site member posting it, or can we give credit to another writer. If the late is possible my guess would be in the notes section. Ie Notes: Guest Writer : fishy. As well as having to sign off; with a current username and site (assuming they don't wish to disclose their email as joining Triad is not on their personal goals list). Ie Fishy (fishy@vaioaweyr.com)
- This is based on if they want the chance to revisit this scene; they have given me permission to use their characters regardless. That said I would still like to be able to credit them. Either in notes or signatures or both. Because respect.

Along with this there are a few things of the original scene that need a Triad Canon check.
But before we get to that would need a cannon check.
The original scenario that would need adapting is thus:
- Wekith gets hit in the back of the head. Concern for his rider stops him instantly /between/ing. Thread eats him alive.
- P'yer falls from his seat on Wekiths neck. Is caught by wingmate (Az'uka). Who returns him to the bowl assuming the dragon is behind them as the keening doesn't start until they land
- Stirred by the keening P'yer finishes himself with a knife across his throat. I would imagine that the healers would have draft on standby. If not as standard practice then on hearing of the strike. (Also slitting ones own throat seems like a bit excessive drama. Especially in the original version of this P'yer was unscored himself. I could see an adaption being that he was also scored and bled out instead)
- Several people also jump from weyrledges in this storyline, but I would not be going that far. I have other plans to mess Ty'dis up – as discussed in his profile.

Consequently; the rest of the questions:
1. How common is it for riders to fall during a Fall? Ie for straps to break or be shredded by Thread?
2. How likely are they to be caught by another rider/wingmate/cover rider?
3. Would riders still carry belt knives into a Fall (i mean don't bring a knife to a gun fight).
4. I assume someone that lost a dragon in a Fall would be offered a mercy draft, rather than be given the chance to off themselves ?
4.2 I mean I assume it's far more likely that a heavily scored dragon/between/ed back to the bowl. Was caught to be treated but /between/ed before they could. But the original drama was the fall being out of timing with the dragon getting struck. Which is why the rider was caught/'rescued' without any apparent knowledge that their dragon had been lost

We haven't ever had guest writers at Triad. Everyone has to sign up and go through the mentor process to write posts here.
Borrowing a character with permission to use as part of backstory is fine. Writing a flashback from your character's POV is fine too.
For your questions 1 & 2 - it definitely happens! We even had a post fairly recently that deals with that same situation. Leaf on the Wind story link (https://www.triadweyrs.org/story.php?st_id=15878)
3. belt knives, maybe?
4. Yes. Dragonless riders are triaged for any physical injuries and sometimes given a sedative for the shock. They have the choice to take a mercy draught.
4.2. A dragon being eaten by Thread as their rider is falling could very well go /between/ and never come out due to the pain and panic. (see Leaf on the Wind again)
