Title: NEW Healer Hall at AHH
Post by: Heather on February 18, 2025, 05:03:22 PM
Alright, folks, a new branch of healers is coming to Amber Hills Hold. Yes, that means the acronym will be AHH-HH ..... aaaaaahhhhhhhh! Literally, that can be the number one joke at this healer branch "Say AHH-HH!"

Right now, this area is a clean slate. I think the only thing ICly is that Zathris is going to have petitioned for this and made sure a building was made on AHH land for it so people in this area have faster, better access to healthcare.

Otherwise, this is an open sandbox ready for play and ideas!

So if you have any ideas of who or what you'd like to bring to this spot, dump it here!

I'd envisioned something similar at BWL but starting out more like a teaching hospital, where the 'main' healer hall would send their journeymen for something like their Residency.

Here in San Diego we have an entire University dedicated to this (UCSD).  I'll be happy to have my healers visit from time to time or help in other ways as well.

In fact, Y'gel has a brother...at the healer hall...

Ooo... let me think on this. I love the idea of a hospital. Basically we could write the Pernese equivalent of ER or House or Scrubs or something.

ER!

... it's like one of my all time favorite shows XD

If it runs like a teaching hospital, then every so often there would be a new crop of "interns" -- which could be the apprentices who have just became Journeymen/women - because now they're like "doctors" but still on a leash, LOL, and then Senior Journeymen could be like your residents, and then of course, Masters are your attendings.

I would love to see a teaching hospital type set up. I have a grouchy master healer in mind to harass the poor interns.

I had a late-night idea about it also being a trauma center sort of thing, with dragonrider ambulances, but I think there was a canon reason why you couldn't take someone with an open wound /between/.

Yeah, no /between/ with open wounds, and Weyrs have their own trauma doctors BUT there could be like... ambulance-style wagons, lol, equipped to quickly transport holders in the area.

Maybe not traumas if there's a reason not to between with open wounds, but it might be a fun side gig for green/blue riders to volunteer to either transport the healers around or bring patients in or discharge them home. A healer hall version of the printer hall's book-mobiles.

I love the idea of dragonrider transports of non-open wounds or fevers. Maybe just like, broken bones, sprains, etc. The Weyr healers could train the blue/greenriders on how to safely transport the injured?

Any chance there would be dolphins in the area? I don't know if there are any dolphins in the Sea of Azov. It would be awesome if journeymen dolphineers could do rotations at the Healer Hall.

Good question - I don't know the history of Amber Hills as thoroughly as some might (Amanda?) but I don't think dolphineers have ever been stationed in the area. In the past, all mention of dolphineers dual training in healing/dolphineering have taken place at Jade Harbor, or at DCW's Dolphin Hall.

So the problem would be that the river going up to AHH from the Sea of Azov would be fresh water rather than salt water.

Challenges in fresh water:
Salt water species don't usually do well in fresh water. Dolphins have less buoyancy in fresh water, and their skin will start to slough after a while.

So this would be very hard on any dolphin that was there for more than a few days. Jade Harbor or the DH at DCW would be the better choice.  But that being said I'm sure they have healers/dolphin healers.

Even more information is here: https://triadweyrs.org/wiki/Dolphin_Craft
--here it says that Dolphins are assigned to the healer Hall to assist with diagnosis
--However, since this is a new location in fresh water it would be subject to the above.  Perhaps travel to the mouth of the river down past the Vintner Hall.

***Edit: Disregard. Heather has explained with a different map why this doesn't work. ***

I don't know the scale of our map so pardon me if this is crazy but couldn't we put it on the sea itself at the mouth of the river? Still under Amber Hills but not necessarily like conjoined? Like put it where M is on the map? Call it an hour's walk or whatever is appropriate to the Hold itself.

I'd like it to be as accessible as possible for people to make any type of character.

Alternatively, there could be an "annex" on the Sea of Azov for a Healer/Dolphin Craft, and a retired rider could be ferrying people back and forth during the day? If someone wants to make a Dolphineer I'm sure there's a way to make it happen.

I don't have a great idea of how long the flight would take if people are going down for pregnancy tests and stuff (no betweening) but it would work for bringing apprentices back and forth at least?
