Characters: R'yin, E'rae
Description: R'yin examines Leith as E'rae looks on.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 16 of Turn 4
The bluerider looked a sight as he crawled all around on his dragon, trying to make sure that Leith's hide was oiled properly, without any missing spots. Cracked hide was no joke and he made sure it never happened to his blue.
}:I think you've covered it:{
**Not quite yet. Still some spots left**
Leith refused to argue. The dragon patiently waited and contorted as requested so he could pass inspection.
Helping with health inspections was a rather fun part of his job that he rarely got to enjoy as all the dragonhealers took it in turn to help out with this task. Aerrath alighted near the blue pair and R'yin slipped off his sturdy brown to smile at the blue's rider, busily oiling.
}:You do not work that hard oiling me. :{ Aerrath observed curiously, if slightly offended.
Appalled, R'yin kicked his dragon in his powerful forearm. **You be quiet, silly brown. Or I will spend twice as much time making you stand still as I do now, which is far too long according to you.** The rumbling snort accompanied him as he waved to E'rae.
"Hey there, E'rae. Come on around here. Leith looks beautiful to me." E'rae was his wingmate and they knew each other as well as wingmates who like to keep to themselves did, and R'yin had never yet found a spot of trouble with the blue or his rider.
E'rae knew Leith was handsome of course, but he deferred to the brownrider. With a last sweep, he easily dismounted his dragon who watched him in an amused fashion. "Aye well it's good to be thorough."
That one statement perhaps described his philosophy to a tee.
R'yin smiled at the bluerider, knowing the man was a quiet one, like himself. "I couldn't agree more, E'rae." He moved closer to the blue, but well out of the way of sweeping wings. "Let's look at the old Threadscore first, could we?"
Leith obediently folded his wings, then shifted so that his left side was more visible. E'rae stepped up and pointed to the score on the left flank near the hindleg. It wasn't particularly nasty, but it had meant some quick betweening and healing.
R'yin moved toward the flank and ran his fingers over the old score. It felt good, pliable to the touch and responsive. Nothing there to find, as he expected. He continued his examination down the powerful muscles of the blue's leg and felt nothing but good, healthy, warm to the touch dragon hide. Very good. "He feels good, E'rae. Nice and supple, strong too."
"Well done, Leith," he said to the dragon, cocking his head as he thought by the quiet, focused attention of Aerrath that he and the blue were gossiping like women, though he could hear nothing. "Now your wings, lad," he said as he stepped back out of the way to give him room.
Leith was slow, but he heard what the man had said.
After a moment, he extended his full wingspan. He got down on all fours so that R'yin could better manipulate and examine his sails.
}:Aerrath, yours is almost as slow as mine. Maybe he should have been a goldrider:{ R'yin went about his examination a little faster now that he was looking at healthy dragon, but he was still slow and careful.
}:He is always careful with others. He would not be a goldrider! He is mine. But he is slow, you are right.
Perhaps if you move around, he'll hurry up.:{ Aerrath said with humor laden in the tones. The brownrider finished with the wings and then stepped back.
"Wonderful, of course, E'rae."
Leith knew better than to move about. His would have his hide if he misbehaved. He would be glad when this was over so he could go and visit his favorite greens.
Surely they had missed him.
"Aye thanks. He hasn't been complaining of anything."
Leith folded his wings back again and wondered just what was next. He whirled his head down close to where he could better see R'yin.
}:If this goes on too much longer I will miss all the good sun!:{ the blue lamented to the brown, clearly petulant. He was not good at being patient.
}:He grows impatient, beloved. Perhaps you should finish. :{ R'yin chuckled to himself. As if Aerrath was any better! R'yin scratched the blue's nose as he extended his head toward him. "You are fine and fit to fly, Leith. The examination is over." Turning to E'rae, he smiled at the bluerider. "He looks wonderful E'rae, though he must hate standing still for the wonderful oil job you do on him. Aerrath really hates it too."
Leith snorted, glad of that. He looked towards his rider. }:Can I go now? Please?:{ E'rae glanced at him sideways. **Fine, but don't get into trouble**
The blue bounded off, then launched himself, heading for the top of the cliff to sun in his favorite spot, hoping his harem would join him soon.
"Thanks R'yin. Is there anything else you need or shall I see you in drills?" E'rae supposed he'd head over to the dining cavern to get something to eat since his dragon had deserted him.
"Sure, E'rae. Unless you want to join me for something to eat! Examining all that dragon made me hungry!"
"Aye sure, let's go." He started walking, looking forward to the meal.
