Chaysea

A'kades made his way from the Weyrleader's office to the door out to
the Weyrbowl and then stopped, giving himself a moment to figure out
the steps he needed to take next. Of course, he'd have to go back to
Dragonsfall, inform the Weyrleaders, and work out a transition
timeline there, but those were things he could accomplish over the
next few days.

Was there anything he needed to accomplish at Dolphin Cove that would
best be done when he was here right now? The meeting with N'vanik
hadn't actually taken very long, and with the time difference between
Dolphin Cove and Dragonsfall, he had at least a candlemark before he
had to go back.

He decided that he should drop in and visit the Headwoman about
finding a weyr to move into. He didn't have to begin moving in yet,
but he thought that giving her advance notice rather than just showing
up in a sevenday and saying 'I need a weyr now' would be appropriate.

So a few minutes later, he was standing in front of the Headwoman's
office door, knocking on it.

"Come in," Chaysea said, in a less than welcoming tone. The Headwoman was
standing in front of the mirror in her office picking what could only be
described as "gook" from her hair and shirt.

A'kades entered the office and paused. The Headwoman's tone was cool and
she looked rather occupied with something... was that the remnants of a
bad food dish? Vomit from a small child? Some bizarre sludge from the
laundry?

"Is this a bad time, ma'am? I can come back another day," he said in a
deferential tone.

"Might as well stay, if you come back another day it'll just be a
different scenario," Chaysea turned with a sarcastic twist to her grin.
"One of our... less...experienced cooks had an 'accident'," she waved her
hand over the mystery gook.

"Oh dear. I'm sorry to hear that," he said, wincing. "Hopefully the task
I'm adding to your plate won't be too onerous. I'm A'kades of bronze
Volaith, and I'm transferring in, so I was hoping I could inquire into
vacant weyrs."

Chaysea walked behind her desk and pulled out her map, spreading it onto
her desk so that the bronzerider could see as well, "You coming in with
rank, and will you need family space?"

"I'll be coming in as Weyrleader N'vanik's new Wingsecond. I don't have a
weyrmate or any family coming with me, though I have two older children
who might visit occasionally. I won't need a full family weyr," he
assured, assuming those were limited now that the Weyr had so many more
people.

The Headwoman paused and looked up into the man's eyes, "The new
Wingsecond, huh? Nice to meet you. I'm normally not covered in stuff...
most of the time." She grinned and went back to the map, her eyes zeroing
in on the weyr that had come vacant not long ago. "Well, you could go to
your predecessor's weyr? It's accompanied with an office and bathing
pool."

"I understand that a Headwoman who's involved in the running of her Weyr
may occasionally wind up in uncomfortable positions, like covered in
someone else's problem," he said. "If it's not going to be too much of a
trouble for your staff to get it turned around quickly, that would be
ideal. I could be in a guest weyr for a bit if you need time. Otherwise,
I've lived without a private bathing pool for Turns and I'll survive."

Well, she wasn't sure that the new Wingsecond had a sense of humor, but at
least he was easy on the eyes. "I had staff clean the weyr the day after
R'enh left, it's too nice a weyr to sit empty long. It's your lucky day,"
she put his name into the spot. "It'll be ready when you are."

"I very much appreciate it, Headwoman - ah - " He realized he didn't have
her name.

"Oh, sorry, Chaysea," she flashed a little smile. "Are there any requests
for things you would like in your weyr that I could get in there for you?
Currently it's got the bare necessities, bed, trunk, wardrobe, table and
chairs, and then your office has a desk and chair."

"Good to meet you, Headwoman Chaysea."

He mentally pictured the layout. That sounded like everything he needed.
Except he did craft, so maybe shelves. Those were always useful. "If there
are any small shelves or cabinets for storing crafting supplies that can
be spared."

"What's your craft?" she asked.

"Tannercraft. Mostly I use it now for making new belts and other small
items for my friends, and to repair my riding leathers and straps."

Chaysea made a mental note to get some new tannercraft supplies in there
as a welcome gift. She jotted down the word 'tanner' beside of his name on
her ledger, "Okay, Wingsecond, I think I have all of the information I
need."

"In that case, I'll get on out of your hair. Thanks for being abe to help
out so quickly," A'kades said.

"You're quite welcome," the Headwoman replied.
