"Well, Key, I'm hearing good things," the Hallsecond said with a smile
as he stepped through the back curtain of the stall the journeyman had
set up.
"Hallsecond," Keayd gave a quick greeting nod. He was just
representing his fruit brandies to a farm crafter and his wife.
Capwick waved him to continue with his work. He could wait. Besides,
he wanted to see if the young man had taken his advice on salemanship to heart.
"I don't know, this tastes kind of like the cough syrup healers give
for the children," the woman complained.
"It has the same herbs that healers use," Keayd admitted. "So, if you
have cold or cough, this is a good remedy. I wouldn't give it to your
children though," he continued.
"So, bottle for medicinal purposes?" the farmer suggested. The wife
hesitated a moment, took another sip and then marks and bottle
exhanged ownership. The couple walked to inspect the next stall and
Keayd gestured Capwick he was now free.
"Nicely done," Capwick nodded approvingly. "How have sales been?"
"Pretty decent," Keayd replied modestly. "Some stuff sells better than others."
"That's true of any product," the Hallsecond assured him. "Had you
predicted they would be more popular?"
"Well, that the citrus-variety sells, I knew beforehand based on the
test sales by Puwul," Keayd replied.
Citrus had always seemed a popular flavor. "What doesn't sell so well?"
"The redfruit.I honest thought it would be more popular. I suppose it
doesn't work out in a brandy," Key took it as a lesson to be learned.
Cap wondered if the young vintner was really giving up so easily.
"Did you like it?"
"Yes, I did," Keayd replied and shrugged a bit. "Maybe I tweak it's
content some more. Perhaps it needs something extra, like a herb to
compliment the taste."
The Hallsecond nodded his approval. "Don't just give up on a product
that has promise. Play with it a bit. Or market it in a new way."
"I won't, sir," Key grinned. He was nothing but presistent.
"Good man." He peeked out from under the tent. "The sun is starting
to get low. You don't have too much longer to go."
Key nodded. "Then I can enjoy rest of the event."
Capwick nodded. "You'll have a candlemark or two before the evening
festivities. Don't forget to get food. There might not be any left
after."
"I won't," Key replied. He also needed to check if his brother's
children had already worn down his canine. Vina loved the children and
they loved her. Sometimes he wondered if he should let the children
keep her.
Well, Capwick had a few more journeymen to check on before that
night's festivities. "You should try some of the things the other
vintners have put out. But not on an empty stomach. I can't have all
my vintners red faced in the evening before the ceremony. Doesn't
look good."
"Of course not," Key chuckled. He never over indulged the Hall's products.
