Description: Three candidates have a private party
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 13 of Turn 9
Since the Candidate Barracks weren't really a good place to hang out
quietly, Vatirel had borrowed one of the classrooms that wasn't in use
this late in the evening. He'd gone and set it up to be less formal
than its usual use. He'd pushed a few desks together to form a table,
and arranged some chairs both around it. He'd scrounged up some food
and drinks - klah, juice, a flash of wine, cookies, and some mini
sandwiches - from the kitchens and laid them out at one end of the
table. Then he'd put out a checkers set and a pack of cards, not sure
which kind of entertainment people were thinking of.
"Hi Tir." Tyselin grinned as he stepped inside. He pulled a small
bouquet of flowers from behind his back. "I thought I'd practice some
of those holder courting techniques."
Dessa had depated with herself to which instrument to bring and had
ended up to guitar. It left her free to talk. She slipped in behind
Tyselin. She really liked just hanging around them. Both boys had
become friends to her. She felt safe around them, she could just relax
with them and let down her guard.
"Hi, guys," she greeted and looked at the flowers. "So, are you two a
couple or just courting?"
"Both. I'm going to woo him with all my powers of woo-ing." Tyselin
laughed, his eyes dancing merrily.
"So, how much you're going to pay me for private serenade?" Dessa
asked with conspiratory whisper.
Vatirel's eyes widened in delight when he saw the flowers, and then he
blushed when Dessa teased them about a private serenade. "What's a
fair cost?"
Dessa never had many close friends and she never been much of teaser,
so she was quite pleased with her success now.
"Well, I still own you for the pants you made for me," she replied.
He'd enjoyed helping create clothing for Dessa, and he'd enjoyed
helping her become accustomed to weyrlife, so there was a perfect
dirty joke involving his work on her pants... but he found he didn't
want to say it where both of them could hear, just in case.
"I'd trade even more tailoring work for serenades," he said.
"You're going to pay for a serenade?" Tyselin grinned. Vatirel had
seemed so hesitant to try a relationship but now he seemed completely
on board.
"I mean, I've never had one, and it sounds like Dessa just offered,"
Vatirel said, glancing between Tyselin and Dessa. Maybe it was a bad
idea?
"Hey, I did bring guitar with me," Dessa pointed out. She wouldn't be
carrying an instrument she was not willing to use. "I should warn you,
my singing voice is only decent, according to Master Eilomar." Of
course, Master Eilomar's decent was good in everyone else's standards.
"I suppose you wouldn't bring a gitar only to break it over our head
for being fools," Vatirel said to the Harper.
"What? And damage a valuable instrument? " Dessa prentented to be shocked.
A couple half-formed responses dashed through Vatirel's mind along the
lines of, 'of course, our skulls are valuable' or 'is that the most
valuable thing in the room', or make a joke about how to make it up to
her. Fortunately, Tyselin spoke first.
Tyselin chuckled. "Considering Tir and I aren't harpers, I'm going to
hazard a guess you're a better singer than either of us."
Self-deprecating he could do. "Oh, absolutely. I can't hold a tune at
all and my mouth is only good for holding pins. Maybe you could show
us how good yours is?"
Then he paused. No. That wasn't what he'd meant to say, and it sounded
bad. "I mean your voice," he clarified quickly."
"Putting your mouth where his ehem is?" Dessa could quite believe she
actually said that. That was not something a proper hold-girl would
say.
"No, pins! Like the kind you use for clothes. Not like..." Vatirel
felt his face getting really warm all of a sudden, and he was hoping
his darker skin was preventing either of them from seeing his blush.
Tyselin laughed. "He's good at that too. His mouth is good for lots of
things." He slid an arm around Vatirel and kissed his warm cheek.
Tyselin wished Dessa would have become a Candidate sooner, she
would've fit right in with their friends.
Dessa realized she had missed a lot when she had concentrated so hard
on her studies. Did she regret it? She thought about it and decided
that she didn't. She might have missed lot of fun but it had made her
better harper and musician.
"Was this going to be an event where we eat cookies and play cards or
something, or did it turn into another kind of event when I wasn't
looking?" His face was definitely still warm, both from the blush and
from Tyselin's kiss.
"I'd be happy either way." Tyselin winked.
"Do I need to leave?" Dessa asked.
"No, not at all!" he said, feeling sheepish. "We invited you to
socialize with us, we're not going to be rude and turn it into a
private moment and kick you out."
"Maybe I should play something then, " Dessa said with a grateful nod
and croutched to take the guitar out of the case.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable," Tyselin said. "But I _would_
be happy to bed both of you, if everyone was agreeable to that, now or
in the future." He shrugged. "Just putting that on the table." It was
good to be clear about these kinds of things.
Now Dessa was blushing. "People do that? At the same time?" She never
heard of such thing. The problem was that she could imagine it and
part of her was intriqued. She tried to cover her discomfort by
fiddling with her guitar.
"People do all kinds of things in bed. Two people, three people, some
people have claimed to do even more. But if you don't want to think
about it at all you don't have to," Vatirel said quickly, hoping to
spare her any embarrassment she might be feeling. He was starting to
feel embarrassed too, mostly because of how he found he was interested
in the idea.
"Say, do you know the happy song about the ovine and the wherry?" he asked.
"You're both adorable." Tyselin laughed softly.
"And you two are bad influence," Dessa said with dry humor,
"corrupting innocent Holdbred maids." Of course, two out of three
didn't really describe her any longer.
"The bad influence boys...it could be us, if you ask some of the
ladies, or the men. But let's go back to music and cards so we can be
good," Vatirel said.
"We can be good for a while and then bad later," Tyselin said with a
little smile.
Dessa just started to play.
