Description: What is a Weyrmate for?
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 12, day 13 of Turn 8
Notes: Follows - Reactions to Inappropriate Behavior
Sometimes it happened that the dragons of weyrmated pairs would be in
tune enough to sense that something was wrong. not the exact details,
just the distress that they felt. And that was what Donneth noticed,
that something wasn't right with Panitath. He slowly sent a mental
approach to the gold, wanting to give her, and his weyrmate's rider
space, if that was all she needed.
}:Can I, or my rider help yours?:{ the brown asked gently.
The gold dragon's mind voice was almost timid or as timid as anyone
could expect a gold to be. }:Mine is very unhappy, and she drinks. She
saw something that made her feel bad.:{ Almost a mental sigh and the
gold made a decision. }:Please come,:{ She relayed a picture of the
Vintner Hall. }:Mine may not wish to see anyone but she won't refuse
to see yours.:{
The message was relayed to K'deren, and he frowned, even as he signed
off on the last piece of hidework on his desk. **Tell them both I'm
going to be there soon, that we will be there soon."
Panitath obediently relayed the message. **Alright,** Cyradis said and
then told the gold not to let anyone else come.
While she might want to wallow in her misery for the moment she knew
these moments were short lived for her and her sense of duty would
snap her back to what she ought to be doing.
"Well then, is this the new vintage?"
"It is," Master Clovente smiled and offered her a small dipper. It
will be lovely when it has a chance to mature."
She sniffed and sipped then swallowed instead of spitting it out.
Clovente's brows lifted. "Would you like to continue tasting my Lady
or should we sit down and open a mature bottle."
She smiled and nodded at his perception. "Something deep and red," she said.
He turned and led the way deeper into the cave where barrels of wine
sat in their casks. "How strong," he asked carefully.
Cyradis chuckled. "Oh I think you probably know Master Clovente."
"That bad huh?" He reached the end of a row and pulled two bottles from
the rack. They were dusty but he wiped them with a towel and carried
them back into the tasting room. "Here is something special," he said
and uncorked the bottle.
Pouring a small amount into a glass he held it out.
Cyradis knew the finer points of wine and while she might want to get
a bit tipsy, she didn't want to do it with a cheap and tasteless brew.
She sipped and then tossed the rest back. "Thats lovely," she smiled
and sat down holding out her glass.
Clovente sat across from her. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not yet," she smiled. "I'll need this bottle at least before I unload."
He nodded and poured a glass for each of them.
It hadn't taken long for K'deren to arrange with their children's
foster parents for them to stay overnight, and to put the riding
straps on Donneth. Then, using Panitath's visualisation, they went
/between/ to the Hall. After K'deren had dismounted, Donneth made his
way to the great gold. }:Let me help you,:{ the brown said simply.
His rider meanwhile had asked a passing apprentice where he might find
Cyradis, and had been directed to the tasting area.
Master Clovente had kept the Weyrwoman company as she talked of her
family, many of whom he had known before the earthquake had destroyed
Amethyst Cliff. But when he saw the brownrider he excused himself.
Cyradis looked up puzzled as he rose. Then saw K'deren. "How did you find me?"
"Panitath," he said simply. "Donneth could tell she was upset."
She tried to stand but the room spun around and threw her back down
into her chair. "Whoa," she said. "Guess I had a little more than I
thought."
"Take it easy," K'deren said. "Now, I can either try and catch up with
you while you tell me about things, or we can go sit somewhere quiet
and you can decide if you want to tell me. Your choice."
"Let's find a place," she said and raised her hand for him to help her
out of the spinning room.
He took it, gently easing his weyrmate to her feet. "You don't have to
tell me if you don't want to, but I will listen if you'd like."
She shook her head and tears welled up in her eyes. "I don't know what
I'd do without you." She held on to him and tried to focus but she'd
drunk to much of the very fine wine. "I walked in on D'hol and Kapera
today they'd obviously just... finished. Jeyme isn't going to handle
it well if she finds out." She took a deep breath. "I told you about
Halendra right?"
He held her close for a moment. "Some," he said. He'd always suspected
there was more, but that when she was ready, she'd tell him.
"She..." Cyradis had never admitted to herself let alone to another
person how well that other woman had crushed her spirit. "She set me
up." Cyradis closed her eyes. "She took N'lon away from me, called me
into her office while they were..."
It wasn't necessary for her to finish the sentence. K'deren knew his
weyrmate well enough by now to figure out what was unsaid. "She sounds
a cruel person."
"She was," Cyradis. "I don't even know why she hated me so much to do
what she did but N'lon ate it all up." She sighed heavily. "They
crushed me that day and I didn't think I'd ever trust anyone close to
me again." She looked up into his eyes. "But you," tears welled up
and she blinked several time. "You are so different. Piece by piece
you helped me put myself back together again. I don't think I could do
all this without you."
"I'm here for you," he said simply. "Always, for as long as you need me to be."
"I don't deserve you," her smile trembled with her emotions. "And I'll
always need you."
"It's me that doesn't deserve you," he smiled back. "You've brought
wonderful children into my life, and after Vonalie I never thought
anyone would do that, and bring me happiness again."
She just buried her face in his chest and clung to him. She didn't
believe him for one minute but with his strength and support along
with Panitath's she could regain her center, her equilibrium. "I'm so
glad we found each other," she mumbled into his flight jacket. She
inhaled the manly outdoors smell of K'deren mingled with the scent of
dragon and felt the stress melt away.
Strong arms held his weyrmate close. "We'll make each other whole again."
