Persona Profile: Rydelle

Writer: Nicole Bonvisuto

Name: Rydelle
Age: 47
Birthday: m7 d9
Rank: Master Crafter
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Craft: Healer
Craft Rank: Master
Speciality: Mindhealer

Physical Description of Persona:
Rydelle is very thin and very tall, standing at 5'9". She has long, straight copper-blonde hair that reaches down to her tailbone. Her facial features are pleasant, with high cheekbones and bright blue eyes. A long scar runs down the right side of her face from an accident during her childhood.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Rydelle is optimistic and gentle, despite the heavy atmosphere in which she often works. She has somewhat of a unique view as far as Weyr-raised women go, seeing the relegation of women to the home and nursery as a sacrifice women have selflessly made. She has always been curious about human nature, and enjoys examining what provokes emotions and reactions. Rydelle's choice to specialize in victims of trauma and abuse requires a lot of patience and problem solving on her end, and she feels a great need to help people.
She is sure to spend time on herself to be certain she retains a good center for her Craft. Gardening and reading smutty romance hides are two of her favorite past times.

History of Persona:
Rydelle's story is not uncommon. Her mother ran away from Opal Cove Hold to Dragonsfall Weyrhold when Rydelle was 7. Her parent's marriage was unhappy, and at times, somewhat abusive. Though the occasional violent spats never involved her directly, Rydelle still carries a deep sympathy for her mother's experience.
Rydelle thrived in the Weyrhold climate, and found herself more interested in the infirmary than even the Hatching Sands. She apprenticed to the Healer Craft at the age of twelve and took well to her lessons. As Rydelle neared age to walk the tables to journeyman, she was sincere in her desire to focus on mindhealing. While dragonless riders were far fewer then that they are now that Threadfall has returned, they still existed and needed assistance in overcoming their grief. She especially focused on the incoming women and families who had been injured or embittered by the restraints of Hold life.

In her thirtieth turn, she began to spend significant time with G'rel, rider of bronze Lyroth, who would later become her weyrmate. Together they had two daughters: Rynde (13) and Gyla (8). G'rel was killed in Threadfall during the third turn of the Pass. Rydelle took a one turn sabbatical away from her specialty to take care of herself and her two daughters and grieve for her weyrmate's loss. The return to lighter duties gave her time to heal, and while G'rel's death still weighs on her four turns later, she has a fresh and personal understanding of grief management.

Over the course of her time as mindhealer, Rydelle has been pulled away from the Weyr to treat women in need of a female approach. When the call came for a healer to help Lady Benani, Rydelle was glad to take up the case.

Family and Friends
Rynde, 16, Weyrbrat (Daughter)
Gyla, 11, Weyrbrat (Daughter)

Glut, Bronze Firelizard: aged 10, hatched m5 d4
Glut most certainly lives up to his name, and was named by Rydelle's oldest daughter. This was a long process as Rydelle turned down names such as "mouth", "teeth", or "hungry".
Despite his affinity for food, Glut is a reliable messenger and a faithful companion.
His hide is a rusty bronze, like an old nail left out in the rain for too long.
Glut was gift from G'rel on their seventh anniversary.
